Responsibility on Both Sides

Responsible gambling is a joint matter for the operator and the player. Both are after the same thing: play that stays conscious and controlled, lower risks of excessive gambling, and no addiction developing.

  • The operator, TRELANGEN a.s. included, must under §§ 13 to 16 of Act No. 186/2016 Coll. give players financial and time limits, information on risks and on self-exclusion, and protection of minors.
  • The player pays attention to their own behaviour and tries to catch warning signals as early as possible.

Tools in the Betor Account

Every registered player finds in the user account a set of tools that Betor provides on the basis of Act No. 186/2016 Coll.

  • Deposit limit: a ceiling on deposits per day, week or month. Once it is hit, deposits stay blocked to the end of the period.
  • Bet and loss limit: an upper boundary for total bets or net loss over a selected period; past it, the system refuses further bets.
  • Time limit: how much time per day or week you can give to play. It is complemented by a reality check, a recurring notice of how long you have been playing.
  • Time-out: a pause of 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days, in which you neither log in nor play; then the account is activated again.

Limits can be introduced, lowered or scrapped at any time. A raise applies only after a protective period that lasts 24 hours at minimum.

Panic Button for 48 Hours

An instant pause is possible with the panic button, which § 16bb of Act No. 186/2016 Coll. obliges operators of internet games and gaming halls to offer from 1 July 2024. The button sits in the user interface for all registered players.

After activation, the player is at once and automatically shut out of all the operator's online platforms and cannot play any gambling game for 48 hours. At the same moment they receive an offer to request entry in the Register of Excluded Persons (RVO).

Exclusion at Your Own Request and the RVO

Under § 16 and § 16b of Act No. 186/2016 Coll., a player may ask the operator to exclude them from gambling temporarily or for good. The request is lodged in the user account or through the gambling operator.

The Register of Excluded Persons (RVO) is run by the Ministry of Finance of the Czech Republic. Apart from those who asked to be entered, it covers persons excluded by law, among them persons in distraint or insolvency proceedings and recipients of some benefits. An entry applies across the board to all licensed operators in the Czech Republic. There are four ways in:

  1. a request in the user account with the gambling operator,
  2. confirming the request after the panic button is activated,
  3. a submission through the data box of the Ministry of Finance of the Czech Republic,
  4. a personal visit to a Czech POINT branch.

Removal from the RVO can be requested no sooner than 1 year after entry.

The 18-Year Line

In the Czech Republic, gambling is open only to people from 18, as Act No. 186/2016 Coll. lays down. The operator verifies the age and identity of every player (for instance through BankID or in another way) at registration and again at the withdrawal of winnings, because play by minors is strictly forbidden.

How to Tell It Is Time to Slow Down

A gambling problem rarely announces itself in advance. Be alert if any of this shows up:

  • staking larger sums or playing ever more often,
  • going beyond the money limit you set yourself, and borrowing to play,
  • coming back to play with the aim of winning back what was lost,
  • postponing work, study or family duties because of gambling,
  • going on in spite of debts or disputes,
  • concealing gambling from those close to you,
  • nervousness, irritability or anxiety when you cannot play,
  • a decline in mental or physical health.

If any of this concerns you or someone close to you, use the prevention tools or seek professional help.

Seven Checking Questions

The questions are drawn from the PGSI (Problem Gambling Severity Index) and serve only as a pointer; they will not replace a professional diagnosis.

  1. Does your spending on play exceed the amount you reckoned with?
  2. Does it occur to you that you should cut back on play?
  3. Does gambling make you feel guilty?
  4. Do you try to win losses back with more play?
  5. Do your duties or your relations with people around you suffer because of gambling?
  6. Has somebody let you know that you have a problem with gambling?
  7. Do you borrow money for gambling?

Several yes answers are a sign that it makes sense to use the prevention tools or consult a specialist.
